Richard McKinley Cooper, 82, of Decorah, died peacefully Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah. A celebration of life is at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Lutheran Center next to Vasa Lutheran Church in Welch, Minn. Reverend Rob Eller-Isaacs, Unity Church- Unitarian of St. Paul will officiate.

Richard was born Nov. 15, 1935, in Flint, Mich., the son of Harold Abner Cooper and Marjorie Anna McKinley Cooper. Upon graduation from Bendle High School in Burton, Mich., Richard entered the Marines and spent four years stationed in California and Japan. He then began work for Unisys as a computer programmer. He married Beverly Marie Gustafson in 1962 at Vasa Lutheran Church in Welch, Minn. After early retirement, Richard attended Metropolitan State University. Richard had many interests including cross-country skiing, rowing, playing tennis, dancing and reading voraciously.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Beth (Greg) Eide, of Decorah; two grandsons, Gabriel Eide and McKinley Eide, both of Decorah; many beloved in-laws; and dear friend, Barbara Anderson of St. Paul, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Marjorie Cooper and his wife, Beverly Cooper.
