Dear Editor:

About this time of year, during the political season, many of us have come to believe the supposed truth, namely that the only way to get elected is to be as dirty as possible, to lie, to give half-truths and to basically approach us as voters in a stance of fighting and negativity.

I wonder what this says about the political "establishments" and their attitudes toward us as voters? Are we really this dumb? Have we really lost all of the ideals that have made our country great? Is Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg address, for example, no longer believed ("Government of the people, by the people and for the people will not perish from the Earth")?

Many of us hear or read Bible words that are very positive, "Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable ... Think about these things." (Philippians 4:8 ).
