Dear Editor:

As a former fellow serviceman in the United States military, I am honored to support and vote for Charles Lore for 5th Ward councilperson.

From helping to create the Decorah Viking Booster Club to helping make the Nordic Fest parade a success to leading the drive to get water and sewer to our industrial park on the east edge of town, he has been a tireless worker. He also seemed to be the driving force on the council to support our volunteer firemen in acquiring a newer ladder truck to replace the inadedquate one we had and that made it actually possible to safely reach the tower dorms at Luther College to fight fires and safely extract students that could be trapped on upper floors.

He has been a constant supporter of our firemen and insisted we have a full-time professional fireman on duty 24 hours a day when others on the council thought 16 hours was enough and let 911 operators handle the other 8 hours. In that other 8 hours, there could be a long delay in response time getting the first truck to the fire.

I have had many conversations with Chuck concerning the water runoff problem toward my Elmwood Addition propery on College Dr. from the Vennehjem addition hard surface area. He has arranged meetings with the manager of Aase and me to discuss options that might solve this problem. He has suggested a slow release pond to alleviate the flooding on my property and on Pine Crest Dr.

Chuck is a good listener and works hard for the betterment of Ward 5 and for the citizens of Decorah. My wife and I are voting for Charles Lore. Do not forget to vote for Charles Lore on Nov. 7.
