A recent change in command didn’t prevent the local birding community from completing the annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count in Northeast Iowa.
Paul Skrade, assistant professor of biology at Upper Iowa University, recently adopted the lead roll for the count. According to Skrade, he took over the responsibility from Dennis Carter, retired National Parks naturalist from Calmar and Larry Reis, naturalist for Winneshiek County Conservation. Carter and Reis took turns compiling the data for the last few years once Darwin Koenig “hung up his hat” after 40 years in charge.
“All three of them were great help to me organizing for my first time,” Skrade said. (For the full story, see Thursday's Decorah Newspapers) (Submitted photos by Larry Reis)
