Decorah High School students were part of a national movement that walked out of school Wednesday morning to honor the 17 killed in the recent Parkland school shooting. The movement called for students to walk out of class all over the nation at 10 a.m., for 17 minutes. Student organizer Sarah Mumford spoke to the crowd and directed them toward the bell in front of the school. DHS students took turns reading the names of each victim of the Parkland shooting, ringing the bell and placing a rose in their honor. As the 17 minutes concluded, adults and students joined hands in a circle around the roses. Indigo Fish, a recent Decorah High School graduate, ended the walkout with a chorus of "Amazing Grace."
