As part of an ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) announced Monday that it will postpone competitions for women’s and men’s basketball, women’s and men’s indoor track and field, and wrestling until no earlier than Jan. 1, 2021. The decision was made by the Presidents Council of the A-R-C, which voted unanimously to approve the recommendation of the A-R-C’s Directors of Athletics Council.

The postponement is for all competition, including games, scrimmages, exhibitions, and/or joint practices. The postponement does not prohibit team practices. Basketball and wrestling may start practice no earlier than Oct.1. Indoor track and field may start practice immediately.

Five A-R-C institutions, including Luther College, also sponsor women’s and men’s swimming and diving. Swimming and diving are not considered official conference sports, as all nine institutions in the A-R-C must sponsor a sport for it to be considered official. Consequently, the postponement that will be announced by the A-R-C today does not include swimming and diving. Luther College will make a decision about competitions for women’s and men’s swimming and diving within the next few weeks.
