Jay Fjelstul, who just finished his junior year at Decorah High School, has been named to the Class 3A Boys’ First Team All-State list by the Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association for the Spring 2019 season.

He had the sixth best scoring average in the state in Class 3A with his 38.85 average for all his meets. The top ten players in the state receive this honor.

During 2019 Fjelstul had an astounding season, medaling seven times and was runner-up once; finished runner-up at the Decorah Viking Invitational with a 74 in the six-team field; was the tournament medalist with a 74 at the West Delaware Invitational in Manchester in a nine-team field. He won the NEIC championship by three strokes with an even par-70, earning him his third All-Conference honor; he advanced to Districts individually with an 81 in fourth place and he finished the season in fourth at the District meet in Manchester with a 77.

This marks Fjelstul’s second All-State honor as he was a Class 3A Second Team All-State honoree as a sophomore in 2018.
