The up and down season came to an end Saturday for the Decorah softball team as the Vikings fell to Mason City, 17-14, in Class 4A regional action Saturday, July 18.

Decorah ends the year 8-7. Mason City fell to Charles City in the regional final Monday.

Mason City put up 10 runs in the first three innings, while the Vikes knocked in six. Decorah inched closer in the fourth frame with two more. However, the Mohawks put together a big six-run fifth to put the game nearly out of reach. Storming back, the Vikes scratched across six runs of their own in the final three innings, coming up just short, 17-14.

Decorah had 17 hits. Duwe was 5-for-5 at the plate with a double, three RBI and a stolen base. Other Vikes pounding out doubles were Avery Shelton and Ellie Luzum. Others having multi-hit games were Ella Kittelson, Isabel Ihde, Cora Syverson, Ellie Luzum and Abby Milburn.

Shelton took the loss with Emma Johnson throwing in relief.
