There were contributors to the win up and down the Warriors’ bench as the South Winn boys’ basketball team (13-7, 11-2 UIC) hosted Starmont (8-11, 8-7 UIC) in the conference finale Friday for the 59-45 win. The victory also gave the Warriors the designation of conference runner-up.
Trailing, 11-10 after eight minutes, South Winn put together a solid second period and grabbed a 27-23 halftime advantage. The Warrior defense was tough in the third frame as SW stretched its lead to 42-29. Starmont tried to chip away at the deficit, but the Warriors remained diligent on defense and held on to win, 59-45.
Levi Lukes was again the leading scorer with 26 points. Cole Klimesh finished the game with a double-double, as the junior connected for 13 points, pulled down 16 rebounds and had five blocked shots. Also in double figures was Brennan Holthaus with 11 points. Paul Hageman chipped in five points and hauled in eight boards. Hunter Todd was often found the open man as he dished out 10 assists.

The finish
Due to inclement weather Monday, the Warriors’ game at Waukon was rescheduled for tonight (Thursday, Feb. 8) at 7:30 p.m.
South Winn will then begin preparations for the postseason run that begins Thursday, Feb. 15, versus Postville at 8 p.m. in Postville.
