The South Winn baseball team (15-7, 8-0 UIC) stepped out of the conference to face Wapsie Valley on the road, falling 6-2.

In a battle of two top area Class 1A teams, No. 8 South Winn was able to grab the early two-run lead thanks to a Logan Hageman RBI double and an RBI bunt by Paul Hageman. Wapsie Valley responded with two in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game and then added runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to secure the victory.

“We knew going in we would face quality pitching and a good offensive lineup. Wapsie came up in the clutch scoring all of their runs with two outs in the innings. Our guys knew we did execute well in all facets of the game and we look for an opportunity to see them again in the playoffs,” said Coach Alex Smith.

Saturday, June 22, South Winn will compete in the Jeff Houg Memorial Baseball Tournament at Waukon beginning at 10 a.m. The Warriors will visit MFL MarMac Monday, June 24, for a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader.
