Iris DeMent, considered “one of the great voices in contemporary popular music” (NPR), is playing Seed Savers in Decorah Saturday, Aug. 1. She will perform with Greg Brown in a benefit concert for Seed Savers Exchange (SSE). Ticket sales support SSE’s non-profit mission to protect and promote America’s garden and food heritage. The concert is at 7 p.m.; gates open at 5 p.m. Tickets are $30 at the door. Concert-goers may arrive early for a Heritage Farm Tour at noon and attend a Fall Planting Workshop at 1 p.m. Food and drinks will be for sale during the concert. Only those with event wristbands will be admitted to the concert. Iris DeMent is releasing a new album Aug. 7 unlike anything else in her career. ‘The Trackless Woods’ features 18 poems by acclaimed 20th century Russian poet Anna Akhmatova that Iris set to original music and melodies and then recorded in her living room in Iowa.
