Former Decorah high school student Kassie Hoyme was one of 12 Illinois State athletes to earn U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic honors recently.

Hoyme’s senior season highlights included a 30th-place finish in the shot put with a personal-best mark of 50 ft., 3.5 inches. At the Missouri Valley Conference championships, the Decorah native was ninth in the shot put and 10th in the discus.

In order to qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met one of the following criteria athletically:

• For indoor season, a student athlete must have ranked in the nation’s top 96 in an individual event or in the national top 48 for a relay event on the NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.

• For outdoor season, a student athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championship, including preliminary rounds.

The Redbird senior is an exercise science major and is the daughter of Chris and Deb Hoyme of Decorah.
