Anna Madrigal, a 2013 graduate of Decorah High School, was named the Luther College women’s basketball team Most Valuable Player for the 2016-17 season.
The announcement was made at the annual awards banquet held recently.
Madrigal, who served as team captain, completed her career as a four-year letter winner. This season, she tallied 313 points, for a career total of 962. She led the team with 60 three-point baskets and finished her career ranked second all-time in this category with 174. Her career shooting percentage from behind the arch of 36.3% ranks seventh all-time. For her efforts, she was named second team all-Iowa Conference.
Academically, Madrigal also was named to the Iowa Conference Winter Sports All-Academic team (3.5 GPA or higher) for the third time. She is one of seven Luther women’s basketball players (since the award began in 1993) to earn this honor three times during their careers.
Madrigal is the daughter of Jon and Marcia Madrigal of Decorah.
