Last week Allie Groux, Josie Kleckner and Mara Frieden were honored at halftime of a Decorah girls’ basketball for their tennis academic all-state honors as selected by the Iowa High School Tennis Coaches Association.

In order to be selected, players must be a senior and must have competed in at least 50 percent of their team’s varsity matches with a cumulative GPA of 3.7 on a 4.0 scale and competed in district/regional competition or a minimum GPA of 3.6 and have competed in the State Tennis Competition.

“You could not ask for better role models on your team than Allie, Josie and Mara. They were very coachable, dedicated to improve each day in practice and lead their teammates by positive example,” said Decorah girls’ tennis coach Larry Berland. “Their outstanding accomplishments whether on the courts or in the classroom met the criteria necessary perfectly in order to be considered for the Academic All-State award.”
