Relays only

Decorah got to mix up the competition styles, competing in a relay-only meet at the Tro-Hawk Relay Invite in Waterloo. No team scores were kept.

“We did very well for swimming tired and were able to notch some new meet records,” praised Coach Laura Storlie.

The Vikes won nine events and broke four meet records during Saturday’s events. The day started with Grimstad, Penny, Bradyn Hook and Johnson winning the 4x50 medley relay in 1:48.16. In the 2x100 individual medley relay, Cole Huebner and Penny combined for gold and a new meet record of 2:03.98. The win streak continued with Johnson claiming the title in the 50 free in 24.30 seconds. Heine and Hook teamed up in the 2x50 butterfly for a winning time of 51.33 seconds. The next title, the 100 free, was won by Grimstad in 51.78 seconds.

Posting a new meet record of 4:53.38 in the 3x166 were Chamberlain, Hook and Cole Huebner. The gold medals kept flowing as the 4x50 free of Johnson, Dixon, Cowie and Cole Huebner touched the wall first in 1:38.65. In a time of 53.55 seconds, Chamberlain and Grimstad grabbed gold in the 2x50 backstroke.

Hook, Heine, Cole Huebner and Grimstad claimed one last title and set the final meet record of the day in the 4x100 free relay. The quartet stopped the clock in 3:35.77 for the win.

The Vikings have one final meet before final preparations begin for the postseason. Decorah will compete in an invitational at Fort Dodge Saturday, Jan. 12, at 12:30 p.m.
