The Decorah boys’ basketball team (6-3, 3-1 NEIC) has won its last three basketball games after besting Spring Grove Tuesday night at home, 54-33.

It was Decorah’s defense that got the job done, holding the Lions to eight points in the first quarter. Meanwhile the Viking offense was on fire, putting up 16 to lead 16-8 after eight minutes. Spring Grove went on a terror in the second quarter to inch closer as the two squads visited the locker room with DHS holding a 30-24 advantage.

The Lions’ offense fell silent in the second half as the Vikings kept them off the board for nearly five minutes and inched ahead to a 38-29 lead with one quarter left to play. Decorah’s 16-point fourth period put the game on ice as the Vikings cruised to the 54-33 victory.

Logan Halverson led the way with 11 points. Patrick Bockman was also in double figures with 10. Charlie Robinson and Matthew Franzen each added nine.

Decorah hosts MFL MarMac tonight (Thursday, Jan. 9) at 7:45 p.m. in nonconference action to wrap up the week.
