Improving their skills every week the Decorah girls’ bowling team came off the holiday break with a win over Waukon on the road Friday night, now with a 4-1 varsity record.

The Lady Vikes put up a solid total score, defeating the Indians 2,471 to 1,889. Baker scores were 156, 170, 173, 200 and 149.

“To come off the holiday break and put up these scores is outstanding,” said Coach Keith Bruening. “We are starting to click as a team, missing some easy shots, but I am very happy with the girls.”

Setting the high marks for the girls’ team were three seniors — Audrey Casterton (182, 160), Katherine Bruening (185, 159) and Maddie Putnam (191, 162). Also competing on varsity were Alexis Svestka (141, 125), Lexie Hauber (148, 170) and Rebecca Bruening (96, 116).

The junior varsity girls’ team also picked up a victory, moving to a 5-0 record.

The varsity boys competed hard, but fell to the Indians, 2,765 to 2,914. The loss puts the Vikings record at 3-2 so far this season. Baker scores were 217, 183, 197, 201 and 180.

“Waukon bowled the highest score in their program history,” said Coach K. Bruening. “For the most part I thought we bowled pretty good, we need to get consistent on our spares.

Keagan Einck had a hot night with games of 204 and 176 to lead Decorah, followed by Jackson Rollins who provided scores of 179 and 185. Also on the lanes were Breydon Johnson (180, 148), Luke Iverson (168, 189), Nolan Jostand (157, 151) and Tyler Thompson (177, 180).

The JV boys’ defeated Waukon to improve their record to 4-1.
