Crucial errors may have cost the Decorah volleyball team (2-4) a set Tuesday, Sept. 3; however, the Vikings rebounded to defeat the visiting Saint Ansgar Saints (1-2), 3-1. Set scores were 25-14, 25-27, 25-21 and 25-17.

“This was another good match for us. I was very proud of our kids, they kept fighting back and got into it and finished strong,” said Coach Gina Holthaus.

The Blue and Red took control of set one quickly. Set two also was heading in the Vikings’ favor until the squad committed a few crucial errors late, allowing the Saints to take the “W”. Needing to gain their composure, Decorah fell into a deep 0-10 hole to start set three, before forcing a side-out and getting on the board. Finding the holes on the floor, the Vikings gained momentum, finishing with a win in the third set and the fourth set.

As a team, Decorah had 39 kills on 123 attack attempts. They produced 35 sets, 46 digs and had an 89-for 99 serving night with 14 aces.

Brooke Berns had 16 of the kills, to go with 33 attack attempts, one solo and six assisted blocks. Emma Johnson highlighted the night, going 34-for-34 at the serving line with four aces and a team-high 15 digs. Alexis Svestka was there for 11 digs and was 9-for-9 in serving.

Ambria Pipho had 17 assists while serving 15-for-18 and hammering down six kills. Freshman Amelia Dugger pounded six kills on 14 attacks. Kallie Mincks provided five digs and was 6-for-6 in serving.
