Facing a stout New Hampton squad (27-7, 15-3 NEIC), the South Winn softball team (9-19, 7-9 UIC) couldn’t get its footing Friday as it ended the regular season against the Chickasaws, falling 9-4 on the road.

It was a back-and-forth start to the contest as the home Chickasaws garnered the first tally of the game in the initial frame. The Warriors quickly answered with a pair of runs in the second inning. Not to be outdone, New Hampton plated two more runs in the second to make it 3-2. The Chickasaws added to their lead with four runs in the third and two in the fourth, while keeping the Warriors off the board. Two SW runs in the seventh weren’t enough to overcome the deficit as New Hampton claimed the victory, 9-4.

The Warriors combined for nine hits, highlighted by a Mary Frana home run. Providing two hits apiece were Sadie McGee and Madison Kriener. Connecting for South Winn’s other singles were Ashley Kriener, Sierra Breitsprecher, Liz Tieskoetter and Mackenzie Schirmer.

Freshman Eryn Luzum twirled the ball for six innings, scattering nine hits and striking out one.
