Central College defeated Luther Saturday on a very wet afternoon by the final of 45-14. The Dutch led 17-7 at halftime and outscored the Norse 21-7 in the final two frames.

Luther freshman quarterback Michael Lorento got the call to start his first collegiate game and responded with 188 passing yards and two touchdowns. He connected twice with Andre Atkins, the first a 10-yard pass with 1:30 left in the first half, and the second on a six-yard pass with 8:42 remaining in the game. Lorento was 12-of-26 and threw one interception.  Atkins finished the game with four passes and 65 yards.

Quon Lambert and Tre Jensen led the Norse rushing attack with 70 and 26 yards respectively.

The Norse tallied 188 yards in the air and 136 on the ground for a total of 324 of total offense. They averaged 4.3 yards per play. 

Four Norse were credited with double digit tackle totals. Jeremy Costa led all tacklers with 17. Jeremy Whalen was next with 13, while both Bryce Neuse and Patrick Beatty both had 11. Chris Pinkney picked off a Blaine Hawkins pass and returned it 30 yards and Tyler Sefried was credited with a sack. 

The loss gives Luther an American Rivers Conference record of 0-3, 0-5 overall. Central, who received votes for the NFCA Division III National Poll this week, improved to 2-0 in league play, 4-0 overall.

Luther will travel to Loras College Saturday with kick-off is scheduled to take place in the Rock Bowl at 1 p.m.
