South Winn and Turkey Valley softball teams were named to the Upper Iowa Conference all-league softball team, released recently.

South Winn had four athletes while Turkey Valley had five recognized.


First team

Named to the first team were South Winn’s Sierra Breitsprecher and Turkey Valley’s Shayla Kuennen and Josie Weber.

Breitsprecher, a senior catcher, was named second team a season ago. At the plate she hit .402, with a .505 on-base percentage and .659 slugging. In 82 at-bats, she had four home runs and nine doubles, driving in 29 runs.

Kuennen was named honorable mention a season ago. The senior catcher was second with a .429 batting average and had a .500 on-base percentage with .648 slugging mark. With 91 at-bats, she had 39 hits, including two home runs and 14 doubles, driving in 30 runs.

Freshman Josie Weber posted a 7-3 record in the pitcher’s circle, throwing 65-1/3 innings. She produced a 5.25 ERA (earned run average) and struck out 46. At the plate, Weber was third in batting average with .390. She also had a .475 on-base percentage and .480 slugging mark. With 100 at-bats, she scored 30 times, with one home runs and six doubles. She drove in 21 runs and stole 11 bases successfully.


Second team

South Winn’s Ashley Kriener, along with Turkey Valley’s Kara Reicks were named to the second team.

Kriener, a senior centerfielder, is honored for a second time in her career. She had the Lady Warriors’ best average at .473, with an on-base percentage of .529 and .613 slugging mark. In 93 at-bats, she pounded 44 hits, with 37 runs scored, six doubles, two triples, a home run and 25 RBI. She also stole 14-out-of-15 bases.

From short stop, Reicks had a .370 average. She had a .467 slugging percentage and .487 on-base mark. The freshman had 34 hits, including seven doubles, a triple and 32 RBI. On the base paths she was 15-for-16 in stolen bases.


Honorable mention

Two athletes from each team were recognized as being named honorable mention.

For South Winn, Sadie McGee and Mary Frana were chosen.

McGee, a senior third baseman, batted .384 this season. She produced a .459 on-base percentage and .459 slugging mark. McGee pounded 33 hits in 86 hits, with five doubles, a home run and 18 RBI.

A sophomore outfielder, Frana earns her second conference nod. She hit .337 for the Warriors, with a .378 on-base percentage and .500 slugging. She had 25 runs scored with a team-high 33 RBI on 31 hits. Frana had two doubles, five triples, a home run and nine stolen bases.

Turkey Valley recognized Jordan Lukes and Jaedyn Winter.

A junior, Lukes hit .425. With 45 hits, she had a .500 on-base percentage and .632 slugging. She led the team in RBI with 36, to go with 12 doubles, two triples and two home runs. On the mound, Lukes was 5-8 with a 6.91 ERA with 32 strikeouts.

Winter picks up her second all-UIC honor, leading the Trojans with a .476 average, .567 on-base percentage with a .563 slugging mark. She had a team-high 50 hits, scoring 40 runs with nine doubles and 27 RBI. She also had 12 stolen bases.
