Opening the season on the par-36 Silvercrest course, the Decorah girls’ golf team had a solid day on the links Monday.

Playing in warm temperatures and windy conditions, the Vikings defeated Charles City by one stroke, 219-220. Medalist of the night went to Decorah’s Ann Meirick with a 47, who led the Vikings.

Audrey Casterton came through with a 56, while Tori Hines carded a 57. Emma Fretheim concluded the team score with a 59. Other varsity results were Lily McGohan (61) and Olivia Fahey (62).

The JV also got on the course, with scores of Annika Lensch, 68; Izzy Elwood, 72; Brooke Norby, 74; Lexie Hauber, 76; Libby Rolfs, 79; Jane Murphy, 79; Kaitlyn Bohr, 81; Hallie Johnson, 81; and Leah Weis, 88.

Decorah is off until Monday, April 17, when they host Waukon. Tuesday is the boy/girl triangular with South Winn and Turkey Valley at South Winn Golf and Country Club. Thursday, April 18, the Vikes host Oelwein.
