The Decorah girls’ swim and dive team will compete at the regional meet Saturday, Nov. 7, at 12 p.m. at Dubuque Hempstead High School. This meet will help determine who qualifies for state. The regional diving meet is tonight, Thursday, Nov. 5, at Hempstead, beginning at 5 p.m.

Decorah will go up against Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Dubuque Hempstead, Dubuque Senior, Dubuque Wahlert, Waterloo and Vinton-Shellsburg.

Throughout the season, individuals have been able to qualify for a spot at state early by swimming under the qualifying standard time set by the state in each event, rather than waiting until the regional meet. There will be a field of 32 state qualifiers, consisting of all swimmers who have met the qualifying standard (the swimmers must still compete in the event at the regional meet). Regional champions from each event will be automatic qualifiers with the rest of the field filled by the next fastest regional times of swimmers who did not meet the state standard.

State diving and swim prelims are Friday, Nov. 13 and swim finals are Saturday, Nov. 14, in Marshalltown.

Due to COVID-19, there will be no spectators at the regional swimming and diving meets on Nov. 5 and 7, or at the State Swimming and Diving meet Nov. 13-14.
