The South Winn softball team (4-6, 3-3 UIC) split a conference doubleheader with MFL MarMac (6-3, 1-1 UIC) Monday night on the road.

In game one, the Warriors allowed MFL MarMac its first and only run in the opening frame. It took until the fifth inning for SW to come alive, scoring two runs. A run in the sixth and two more in the seventh clinched the conference win, 5-1, for the Warriors.

South Winn had nine hits in the contest. Liz Tieskoetter had two of them, including a triple to match two RBI. Ashley Kriener provided three hits, an RBI and a stolen base. Also having a multi-hit game was Mary Frana with two singles and an RBI. Liz Engelhardt and Madison Kriener also had singles.

Freshman Eryn Luzum had a big game on the mound. She went all seven innings, allowing three hits and striking out six.

In the second game, the Warriors suffered a 6-2 loss.

The Bulldogs opened the game with a solid five-run first inning to snare the early lead and kept SW off the board until the fifth frame.

The Warriors had six hits in the contest. A. Kriener had another solid game with a pair of singles. Also pounding out hits were Frana, Sadie McGee, Tieskoetter and Emma Houdek.

Luzum shouldered the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits and striking out six.

South Winn tangled with North Fayette Valley in West Union Wednesday and the end of the week will come to a close at the Jesup tournament Friday and Saturday, June 7-8.
