The South Winn volleyball team (0-10) traveled to Jesup for a five-team round-robin tournament Saturday dropping all four matches on the day.

Opening the contest was a loss to North Linn (6-6) by set scores 5-21 and 11-21, before seeing UIC opponent Central Elkader (1-10) and falling by set scores of 9-21 and 6-21. Match three went to Alburnett (4-9) by set scores 11-21 and 13-21 with the day ending with a loss to Class 2A No. 10 Jesup (10-2) by set scores 9-21 and 12-21.

“After a week of practice, we planned to look at some rotation options that might provide some more offense for us. We knew going in this would take some adjustments and unfortunately the balance or serve receive and defense outweighed the benefits of some options we considered,” said Coach Alex Smith. “Tournaments are a great way to look at a number of personnel options and we think we found some things that will be beneficial for us.”

Madison Kriener picked up five kills on the day and was 14-for-16 serving with an ace. Setter Ali Heying handed out 11 assists, while libero Eryn Luzum paced the way with 25 digs. Emily Michels provided a 10-for-11 service day to go with six digs and seven assists.

Next, the Warriors will travel to West Central Thursday, Sept. 17. The week concludes at the Nashua-Plainfield tournament Saturday, Sept. 19, beginning at 9 a.m.
