The Decorah swim team will have representatives in seven events this weekend at the state meet in Marshalltown after qualifying Saturday, Nov. 2, at the regional meet at Linn-Mar.

With 324 points, the Vikings finished fourth in the team standings as Iowa City West won the title with 506 points.

“The girls swam fantastic on Saturday. We finished fourth in our region which is exceptionally well at this caliber of a meet. We have a young team this year and with the high stakes of this meet they swam extremely well, coming out of the meet with 90 percent lifetime best times,” said Coach Allie Bachelder. “I was incredibly proud of all the girls and now we focus on finishing the season strong at state.”

Of the six regional meets across the state, the top finisher in each event automatically qualifies for the state meet, along with individuals who achieved the standard time during the season. To fill the 32-team relay events or individual fields, the next fastest times from all regionals earned state bids.

Three individuals will compete at state, as well as all three relays.

Four-time state qualifier Emma Bachelder, who achieved two of the required standard times earlier in the season, will race individually in the 200 free and 100 breast, as well as serve as anchor of the 200 free and 400 free relays.
