The road to state begins tonight for South Winn and Turkey Valley softball teams as Class 1A and 2A host first-round contests.

South Winn and Turkey Valley are both in Class 1A Region 7 and will host games in the opening round tonight (Monday, July 8) at 7 p.m.

The Warriors will welcome Tripoli to Calmar. The winner moves on to face Ed-Co in Edgewood Wednesday, July 10, at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinals. The regional semifinal will be held Friday, July 12, at 7 p.m. with the final set for Monday, July 15, at 7 p.m. at a site yet to be determined.

The Trojans are in the other half of the bracket, hosting West Central. The winner of that contest moves on to compete at Kee High Wednesday, July 10, at 7 p.m. in New Albin. The regional semifinal on the upper half of the bracket will be held Friday, July 12, in Clarksville. Other teams in Class 1A Region 7 are Wapsie Valley, Central Elkader, No. 3 Clarksville, Postville, Kee High, Starmont, Dunkerton and No. 10 Janesville.

Decorah is in Class 4A Region 3 and will host a postseason game for the first time since 2011. The Vikings will open the postseason versus Waterloo East Thursday, July 11, at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to face No. 2 Charles City Saturday, July 13, at 7 p.m. at Sportsmen’s Park in Charles City. The regional final will be held Tuesday, July 16, at 7 p.m. at the highest remaining seed. Other teams in the bracket include Mason City, Waverly-Shell Rock and Webster City.

The state softball tournament is July 22-26 at Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge.
