Sophomore Tyler Thompson got a taste of the state competition in Class 2A held Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo.

As the lone qualifier for Decorah, the sophomore rolled a 141 his first game and posted a game two score of 205 for a combined 346 pins, finishing 45th overall.

“Tyler was nervous in the first game, being only a sophomore; however, I thought he rolled pretty decent,” said Coach Keith Bruening. “This young fella will be back to the state tournament — hopefully with his teammates. I am proud of Tyler being the 2019 district champ as not many can make that claim. He is a very coachable kid and I am lucky to coach him. I’m already excited to start the 2019-2020 season.”

The individual Class 2A champion was Cedar Rapids Xavier junior Dale Weaver with games of 216 and 296 for a combined tally of 512.
