Pat Trewin named new Decorah head football coach.

Decorah High School is pleased to announce the hiring of Pat Trewin as Head Varsity Football Coach pending school board approval. Trewin will replace Bill Post who retired after 45 years in the program as an assistant and head coach.
Trewin has served as an assistant during the past 22 years during which time the Vikings have won 10 district championships and qualified for the playoff 14 times with nine quarterfinal appearances. Also during his time as an assistant, Decorah has played in five state championship games with one state title.
In 2013 Trewin was named Class 3A Assistant Football Coach of the Year by the Iowa Football Coaches Association. Prior to his time in Decorah, Trewin was the head coach at Valley CEW for three years and an assistant coach at Bondurant for one year. Trewin graduated from Luther College in 1992 where he was an all-conference lineman after a successful prep career at North Fayette High School.
“I am extremely honored to have the opportunity to be named the Head Coach of the Decorah Viking Football Program,” stated Coach Trewin. “We hope to continue the legacy of playing great football and working to help young people grow up to be diligent and responsible people. Filling the shoes of Coach Post will be a tremendous task and I am so thankful to have worked with him, and learned from him, for so long. The greatness of a program can often be measured in wins and championships, but Decorah Football is known for much more than that. We not only look forward to building upon the style of football we play, but for the way we play the game – by the rules and respectfully. I hope to continue to push the people in our program to live in the same way in all of their activities.”
“We are extremely excited and looking forward to Coach Trewin stepping into his new role with the football program. Through the hiring process, Coach Trewin expressed a great desire to create peak moments for our student-athletes and community. We hope this can be done through embracing what has made us successful while identifying areas in which we can continue to get better and grow in all phases of what we do. His pride and support for all activities at Decorah High School will give Coach Trewin a great platform to meet the needs of our student-athletes.”
