The weather was great. The course was in great shape. And the Decorah girls’ golf team played great.

Hosting the Northeast Iowa Conference girls’ golf tournament at Oneota Golf and Country Club, the Vikes played extremely well, finishing runner-up to Class 2A top-ranked New Hampton Monday. The Chickasaws claimed their fifth straight NEIC title with 328 strokes, while Decorah finished the day with 378. Coming through in third with 384 was Crestwood.

New Hampton’s Allison Nuss carded a 74 for medalist honor asteammate Morgan Nuss ended her day with 77 strokes as runner-up.

Decorah had three linksters make all-NEIC (top 15). Senior Ann Meirick placed fifth overall with an 89. It’s her third all-conference honor. For the first time in their careers juniors Tori Hines and Audrey Casterton garnered all-NEIC nods. Hines finished seventh in a four-way tie with a 94, while Casterton tallied 97 to tie two others in 13th place.

Marisa Schneider, Waverly-Shell Rock, 91; 7. Marissa Daniels, Charles City, 94; 7. Hailey Panos, Crestwood, 94; 7. Sanja Djukic, New Hampton, 94; 7. Tori Hines, Decorah, 94; 11. Kryslynn Ruppert, Crestwood, 96; 11. Lola Lemke, New Hampton, 96; 13. Audrey Casterton, Decorah, 97; 13. Betsy Anderson, Waukon, 97; 13. Ana Hansen, Waverly-Shell Rock, 97.

In addition to Meirick, Hines and Casterton, Emma Fretheim missed all-NEIC honors by one stroke, finishing 16th with 98 strokes. Olivia Fahey fired a 109 while Izzy Elwood contributed a 136.

“Our record now sits at 12-2, with both losses coming at the hands of No. 1 ranked New Hampton (our dual meet earlier this season and today’s tourney),” said Coach Scott Pierce.

The Vikings host their rescheduled tournament today (Thursday, May 9) beginning at 1 p.m. Decorah will be at Waverly-Shell Rock Monday, May 13, at 2:30 p.m.
