The season-opener triangular between the Turkey Valley (0-2), MFL MarMac (1-2) and New Hampton (5-0) volleyball teams was a challenge Tuesday, Sept. 3, as the Trojans fell in both matches at New Hampton.

The marathon match

TV lost a tough five-set match to open the night versus MFL MarMac. Set scores were 14-25, 25-20, 25-20, 22-25 and 13-15.

“MFL swept us in three last season, so it was refreshing to open with a gritty performance in a rotation that is still developing to say the least,” said Coach Ethan Adams. “It was a team effort and I’m proud of the positivity and resiliency we showed.”

Pushing the opening game to a fifth set, Turkey Valley fought from a 10-2 deficit to drop the match 15-13.

Breanna Busta and Rachelle Smith pounded out 10 kills apiece, while Katlyn Baumler provided four. Josie Weber dished out 29 assists and went 18-for-19 in serving with two aces. Coming up with 14 digs was Addy Einwalter. Jaedyn Winter was solid at the serving line, going 18-for-18.


The Trojans had a hard time getting the offense mojo flowing versus New Hampton as the fell in two sets, 16-25 and 9-25.

As a team, Turkey Valley had nine kills, 25 digs and was 22-for-26 in serves.

Big week ahead

Turkey Valley has a busy week in store as Riceville visits Jackson Junction tonight (Tuesday, Sept. 10) at 7:30 p.m.
