To start a busy week of action the Turkey Valley softball team (3-6, 3-1 UIC) picked up two conference wins Monday over West Central, 14-8 and 13-2.

In the first contest, the Trojans jumped all over the Blue Devils with four runs in the first inning. West Central countered with two runs in the bottom half of the opening frame. Undeterred, TV went back to work scoring 12 more times in the last six innings.

TV provided 16 hits. Coming through with three hits was senior Kim Fischer to accompany two RBI and two stolen bases. Kara Reicks was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Jaedyn Winter drove in four runs with two hits. Shayla Kuennen and Aleah Hackman provided doubles. Jalyssa Blazek, Jordan Lukes and Emman Hanson all had two hits.

Josie Weber was the winning pitcher. She gave up two unearned runs on 11 hits and struck out seven.

The Trojans opened game two with 10 runs in the top of the first frame. TV tacked on two in the fourth and one in the fifth, winning, 13-2 in five innings.

The Red and Black collected eight hits. Lukes knocked out a double, while Kuennen came up with two hits. Providing a single apiece were Blazek, Hackman, Winter, Hailey Elsbernd and Reicks.

Lukes threw the five frames, allowing two runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.

 

On the horizon

The Lady Trojans hosted Central Elkader, Wednesday, June 5, in a conference doubleheader. The week will end at the Central City tournament Saturday at 11 a.m. Next week begins with a UIC twinbill at MFL MarMac Monday, June 10, at 5:30 p.m.
