A small contingent from the Decorah girls track team traveled to Ames Monday to compete in the Iowa State High School Classic Indoor, hosted by Iowa State University.
The meet features squads from all over the state in an unscored season opener.
Decorah had athletes competing in 10 events. The best results came in two of the relays.
Allie Hafner, Rylea Ranum, Sarah Mikkelson and Katie Nimrod blazed around the track in the sprint medley relay, placing second overall in 1:53.82. Southeast Polk won the event in 1:50.49.
Also earning the silver medal was the 4x400 relay. Mikkelson, Madison Sexton, Kayla Quandahl and K. Nimrod stopped the clock in 4:11.02. Again, Southeast Polk came out on top in 4:02.58.
The 4x800 relay of Jenna Galligan, Brooke Courtney, Brooke Berns and Shayla Betts completed the event in 10:43.08, good for ninth.
Allie Hafner came out of the third heat in the 60-meter dash to place 10th in 8.32.
In the throwing events, Hailey Nierling produced a best toss of 34 feet, 6.25 inches, good for 11th.
“We were pleased with our performances tonight. This was a good start with great competition,” said Co-Coaches Brad Johansen and Cristy Nimrod.
