It didn’t take much time for the Decorah boys’ basketball team (9-10, 5-5 NEIC) to pull away from Waukon (11-8, 6-5 NEIC) at home Tuesday night for the 82-62 win.
Not much went wrong for the Vikes to open the game as they strolled out to a 24-8 lead after eight minutes. The Decorah squad continued to build its advantage with 23 second-quarter points. At halftime it was 47-20 in favor of the Vikings. Waukon tried to chip away at the lead in the third segment, knocking down 23 points, but solid play on both ends of the court kept the Vikings in control for the 82-62 win.
Jerod Redenius was overpowering at the basket with 27 points. Two other Vikes were in double figures including Nick Bockman with 13 points and Tynan Nelson with 10 points. Clay Johansen chipped in eight points.
On the road Friday, the Vikings will visit Charles City for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off. The regular season will come to an end Tuesday, Feb. 13, at Crestwood, at 7:30 p.m.
