It was a fun night at the ballpark for players, coaches and fans Wednesday, July 3, as the Decorah baseball team (14-13, 10-8 NEIC) hosted Turkey Valley (4-22, 4-7 UIC), topping the fellow county team, 10-0, in six frames.

“It was great to have the large number of veterans join the guys on the field for the National Anthem and express our gratitude for their service,” said Coach Adam Riley. “On the field we played error-free baseball behind an excellent performance by Caleb Keck on the mound.”

“We battled for a few innings and then gave up a couple of crooked numbers on the scoreboard,” said Turkey Valley coach Dan Stepan.

Throughout the contest, the Vikes gave the Trojans limited opportunities to run the base paths as Decorah senior pitcher Caleb Keck rang up nine strikeouts. On the mound for Turkey Valley were Elliott Dietzenbach, Carter Reicks and Simon Schmitt.

Decorah connected for eight hits in the contest with Kailer McCabe collecting two to go with two stolen bases to lead the charge. The Trojans had three singles during the matchup, coming from Dietzenbach, Kannon Leuenberger and Kalvin Langreck.
