Monday the Decorah boys soccer team (3-3) fell at Dubuque Wahlert (2-7) 4-1.
“This scoreline was not indicative of the type of game that was played Monday. Our boys fought hard and were the better team at times throughout the game; however, Wahlert capitalized on their chances and ended up with an inflated scoreline because of this,” said Coach David Keller. “A key moment in the game was when our Parker Lane limped off the field, eventually finding out he had broken his leg. Seeing a teammate writhe in pain on the sideline is a hard thing to forget while you’re playing. After this injury, it took a while to regain our focus and composure, and when you’re playing a team like Wahlert, those moments can decide the game’s outcome. Parker will be a big loss for us, but I know we have guys who can step up and continue the positive trends we’ve seen on the field so far. I also have a feeling we’ll see Wahlert again--our boys are hungry to play them again, and I have a feeling Wahlert may have gained a false sense of confidence from this encounter.”

The Vikings are at Postville today, Thursday, May 8, at 5 p.m. Saturday they’re at the Waverly-Shell Rock tournament, beginning at 9 a.m.
