Returning to the mats from holiday break, the Decorah wrestling team hosted a triangular Thursday night at home, then traveled to West Delaware for a conference dual Friday night.


Double dual

Decorah’s wrestling teams got busy Thursday night, Jan. 2, hosting Oelwein and Caledonia-Houston, winning both duals. The Vikings topped the Huskies, 51-24, to start the evening and edged Caledonia-Houston, 38-34.

The Vikings had five matmen go 2-0 for the night. 

At 132 pounds, freshman Brady Stille kickstarted the evening with a fall over Oelwein’s Sojidin Gulmamadov in 3:27. He later hung on to a 6-2 decision over Tucker Ginther of Caledonia-Houston.

Class 2A No. 4 Jackson Rolfs continued to steamroll the competition at 145 pounds. He threw Leighton Patterson of Oelwein in 1:20 and needed just 41 seconds to put Caledonia-Houston’s Eric Mauss on his back for the pin.

After 52 seconds, Nate Rolfs pinned Austin Perry of Oelwein to the mat at 160 pounds. He later tossed Aiden Goetzinger to the mat in 1:47 for his second win of the night in the dual versus Caledonia-Houston.

It was two wins for Elijah Mitchell at 182 pounds as the senior picked up a 7-0 decision over Gage Voshell of Oelwein and threw Ezequiel Heins of Caledonia-Houston in 1:09.

Dawson Palmer finished with double wins for the Vikings at 195 pounds. He needed just 24 seconds to throw Oelwein’s Owen Rechkemmer in the first dual of the night. His second win came in the form of a 15-0 tech fall in 3:55 over Caledonia-Houston’s Owen Block
