After a harsh start to the week, the Decorah baseball team (5-7, 2-3 NEIC) earned three big victories on the home diamond last week.

One run

In a tight ball game with few at-bat opportunities, all the Vikings showcased great energy, squeaking out a 1-0 victory over Waterloo East (1-19).

“It was a fun night to be at the ballpark,” said Coach Adam Riley. “Ryan Schneberger pitched a fabulous baseball game and the guys played excellent defense behind him, as well as hitting a lot of balls hard throughout the game. East did a great job playing defense too.”

Jace Johnson scored the lone run of the game, reaching base on a walk. A Drake Shelton single, followed by a Cael Luzum double scored Johnson in the sixth inning.

Schneberger got the win, striking out six.

Decorah’s hits came from Cael Luzum, Keenan Tyler, Drake Shelton, Caleb Keck and Andy Murphy.

“We are getting better every day and are looking forward to what lies ahead in the coming weeks of June.
