Four members of the Decorah baseball team were recognized by the Northeast Iowa Conference as being named all-NEIC.

Senior Drake Shelton is the lone return honoree, having been named to the list already twice in his career.

Shelton, the Vikings’ starting catcher, earned his second consecutive first-team designation. He hit .357 this season, with a .466 on-base percentage and .592 slugging. In 33 contests, he scored 25 runs, had four home runs, one triple, nine doubles and stole 22 bases.

Sophomore Cael Luzum was named to the second team and was recognized for his play as pitcher. He posted a 4-2 record on the hill for a 3.50 ERA (earned run average) with 59 strikeouts. In the batter’s box, Luzum had a .312 average with a .448 on-base percentage and .416 slugging mark. He connected for 24 hits, including eight doubles and drove in 14 runs.

Honorable mention selections were seniors Jace Johnson and Ryan Schneberger. Johnson’s efforts on the hill gave him a 3.56 ERA and 3-6 record as he struck out 43 opposing batters. At the plate, the senior posted a .266 average and .402 on-base percentage with .329 slugging. Johnson produced one home run and two doubles, scoring 20 runs for the Vikings.

Schneberger split his time between first base and pitcher during the 2019 season and had a solid year with the bat. The senior finished with a .292 average and .370 on-base percentage. If his 26 hits, he had a triple, two doubles and 10 RBI.
