The season has come to an end.

In the first round of the Class 2A Region 7 playoffs, the South Winn volleyball team (4-21) fell to MFL MarMac (8-10) in three sets, 18-25, 14-25 and 14-25.

The Bulldogs faced No. 7 Sumner-Fredericksburg in the quarterfinals Wednesday, Oct. 21. The regional semifinal is Monday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. The regional final is Wednesday, Oct. 28, at a site to be determined. Sumner-Fred had a first round bye and entered the quarterfinal with a 24-7 record.

“MFL-MarMac was tough on our defense tonight, as they were able to distribute the ball to their hitters and put us in some tough spots,” noted Coach Alex Smith.

In Monday’s opening round the Warriors had 11 kills on 60 attack attempts, while serving 39-for-47 with five aces. They also had 11 assists, 34 digs and two blocks.

Madison Kriener slapped four kills on 12 attack attempts and served 9-for-12 with four aces. Ruthie Frana provided three kills and one dig. Sydney Becker had three kills, three digs, one block assist and was 3-for-4 at the service line with an ace. Dishing out 11 assists and going 6-for-6 at the serving line was Alison Heying. With 10 digs apiece were Eryn Luzum and Breanna Dvorak.

South Winn graduates Mary Frana, Madison Kriener, Breanna Dvorak, Presley Bushman, Sydney Becker, Emma Barness and senior manager JT Monroe, but return a slew of underclassmen with varsity experience.

“It’s always hard to have a season come to an end, and I want to thank our seniors for all their dedication to the program. From the beginning of the season, all the way to the final week, they brought a desire to get better and enjoyed their opportunities together on the court,” concluded Coach Smith.
