Newly elected Decorah School Board members took the oath of office during the Board’s annual organizational meeting last week.
John Hjelle, Ben Lange and Brian Petersburg all were re-elected during the Nov. 5 school election.
Lange moved to re-elect Ron Fadness as Board president and the motion was unanimously approved. Petersburg moved to re-elect John Hjelle as vice president and that motion also was unanimously approved.
In other action, the Board set Board meeting dates for 6 p.m. the second Monday of each month at the Central Administration Office.

The Board was informed the District’s certified enrollment as of October was 1,606 students. In October of 2018, the Decorah School District’s certified enrolment was 1,361 students and North Winneshiek’s certified enrollment was 265 students. The two districts consolidated July 1.
For the current school year, 43 District students are attending Mabel-Canton and five students are attending Fillmore Central.

In personnel matters, the Board approved three new hires:
• Renda Tollefson, wrestling cheerleading sponsor
• Alyssa Johnston, basketball cheerleading sponsor
• Amy Pipho, temporary middle school girls’ basketball coach.
